The Wei P0ker Tour is successful largely because of the generous folks who offer their homes to host the tournaments every month. Huge thank yous to everyone who has hosted in the past and is going to host in the future.
House rules. The Wei P0ker Tour has Official Rules which govern play, but local house rules may over-ride any or all of these. Check with John Wei or any of the Core Council members for details or if you have a question. Common house rules include, but are not limited to:
Host starts as dealer
Blinds increase when host is dealer
Local blind schedules
Friend invitations. One of the few ways players can be added to the Wei P0ker Tour invitation list is when they are added by hosts. This is your opportunity to bring your friends into the Wei P0ker Tour.
Invitation vetoes. Hosts have final say who they invite into their home and may remove any players from the invitation list.
Home field advantage. Hosts often do better at their own house because they are comfortable, can exercise house rules, and don't need to be anywhere.
No driving. Hosts can drink as much as they want because they don't have to drive home afterwards.
Free beer. Hosting a Wei P0ker Tour event often results in a fridge filled with leftover beer.
Pick a date. As host, you get to pick whatever date you like within your hosting month.
Historical stats (2004-2008) for each day of the week:
Sunday: None
Monday: 12 total, average 13.2 players, max 17
Tuesday: 19 total, average 11.6 players, max 19
Wednesday: 7 total, average 10.9 players, max 18
Thursday: 19 total, average 11.3 players, max 17
Friday: 2 total, average 11.0 players, max 13
Saturday: None
Mondays and Tuesdays tend to be the most popular
During the summer (about April - September), you will cut the crowd about in half on a Wednesday due to softball
Nobody's done a weekend one, but there's always a first
Create an evite
Most people copy one of the old ones
If you have space constraints, you can limit the size of the event using evite
If you plan on ordering pizza, it's helpful (to you) to setup an evite poll to see how many people want in
It's a good idea to disallow invitees from adding other people
If you need help with evite, let John Wei know
John will provide you the Wei P0ker Tour distribution list before your evite goes out
Feel free to add any friends you would like, keeping in mind the guidelines outlined in section VI of the Wei P0ker Tour Official Rules
If you remove any players from the Wei P0ker Tour distribution list, please do so before the evite is sent out
The house may not take a rake or collect any kind of fee for hosting the game
Below is a list of items required for a Wei P0ker Tour event. These can all be provided for you if you do not have them (or want to provide them). Please coordinate with John Wei if you need help:
At least 1 table per 8 players
1 chair per person
P0ker chips (should have enough for 400-800 chip values per person)
1 deck of playing cards in good shape per table (no bent or torn cards that "mark" them)
Seating chart
Blind schedule
These are optional iltems:
1 felt p0ker tabletop per table
Food
Pizza is often made available by the host, 2-4 people/pizza is typical
Any food provided is generally paid for by individuals, $5-$10/pp is reasonable
Beverage: Typically BYOB, but hosts may elect to make kegs available, for example
Because it is a fair amount of effort to move furniture and big cases of chips around, people do appreciate if you hook them up for helping to furnish an event. Hosts will sometime "comp" beer or pizza for players bringing furniture.
